Make It Public’ was a symposium turned digital festival held by the MRes RCA Students and hosted by the Design Museum in London. Divided into multiple groups, each team reflected on a theme: Balance, Body, Identity, Materials, Memory, Participation and Position. The results were dynamic and vastly different. Heavily influenced by the impact of the pandemic we had to re-think the ways in which we could produce work and how to hold a symposium under such circumstances, thus the digital festival was born. My team decided to digitize our planned zine (Gathering Zine) and take advantage of being able to reach and involve other artists from across the globe. We collected the contributions of artists responding to ‘the body in lockdown’ using any medium (so long as it could be shown in an image). My team were very pleasantly surprised by the response we received and how varied the work was. After the submission period closed the focus quickly turned towards curating the content of the zine as well as adding our own contributions of work. (see my work below)

‘Gathering Zine’ logo design by June Huebner (2020) We wanted something with organic shapes and that would reflect the ‘gathering’ quality of the zine. I opted for crisp modern typography against tonal red background shapes (our branding colors were also red). The shapes represent building blocks that can be put together in the spirit of collaboration.
